Day 2 New Zealand

Well the plane flight was great and we arrived at our accommodation without a hitch yesterday. St Ita's B&B is an absolute Gem. We must have travelled past it on the way to our skiing holiday at Mt Hutt a few years ago. St Ita's is an old Catholic school which has lovingly become our accommodation because of the renovation of our very generous hosts. The garden is gorgeous as was the breakfast.

Today we spent a few hours exploring the botanical gardens and the earthquake ravaged city of Christchurch. So many parking lots!!! I love the way the locals think about the little things like rubbish bin design and the huge murals on all the city building walls. Maybe the small population allows them the space to be more accommodating of the human spirit.

Unfortunately the exchange rate is poor for the AUD so we are now seeking to curb our spending on meals. This meant a quick shop at the Woolworth's look

a like and then dinner on a park bench over looking the Canterbury plains from Victoria park. No better way to save a little money. The kids were attracted to a giant slide which revealed a spectacular view of Christchurch.

Tomorrow we drive for some walking on Mount Cook and I am praying the kids can be a little more accommodating of the experiences we are embarking on.
